Nigeria remains attractive destination for energy investment — NNPC GCEO

The Group Chief Executive Officer of NNPC Limited, Bashir Bayo Ojulari, has said Nigeria remains a viable destination for global energy investment, citing the country’s strong fundamentals and clear value proposition.

Ojulari made this known on Tuesday while speaking at CERAWeek 2026, an international energy conference held in Houston, Texas, where he addressed global industry leaders on Nigeria’s energy outlook.

He noted that the country’s strategy is anchored on practical execution, strategic partnerships, and a balanced approach to meeting current energy demands while planning for future transition.

“Capital goes where value is clear, and Nigeria has that value. We are not choosing between today and tomorrow; we are funding the future with the present,” he said.

According to him, Nigeria continues to rely on hydrocarbons for revenue and foreign exchange, making sustained upstream oil production essential, while also positioning gas as a key driver of industrial growth and energy security.

Ojulari stated that Nigeria holds over 600 trillion cubic feet of proven gas reserves, describing the resource as a major economic asset capable of supporting long-term development across the continent.

He also highlighted ongoing reforms in the sector, including the implementation of the Petroleum Industry Act, which he said has improved regulatory certainty and investor confidence.

The NNPC boss further pointed to efforts to strengthen infrastructure and security, as well as deepen partnerships with international oil companies to enhance project delivery, particularly in deepwater operations, adding that the company is shifting focus from resource ownership to resource monetisation.
