Nigerian Railway Corporation debunks social media train fire claim

The Nigerian Railway Corporation (NRC) has dismissed a viral video circulating on social media that appears to show a train coach on fire, describing it as misleading and outdated.
In a statement released on Saturday, NRC clarified that the incident depicted in the footage occurred over three years ago along the Warri-Itakpe rail corridor and does not reflect the current state of its operations.
“The video is not recent and does not reflect the current state of operations or safety on any of our train services,” said Callistus Unyimadu, Chief Public Relations Officer, who signed the statement on behalf of the management.
The corporation warned the public against spreading outdated or false content that could incite unnecessary fear and panic, noting that such actions undermine public trust and national development.
Reiterating its commitment to safety and quality service delivery, NRC said it continues to upgrade its operations in line with global safety standards and best practices.
The agency also urged Nigerians to verify information through official NRC communication channels before sharing it with others.
