Nigerian scholars abroad to receive 2025 outstanding allowances — FG

The Federal Government has commenced the payment of outstanding 2025 allowances to beneficiaries of the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Programme studying in partner countries abroad.

The Federal Ministry of Education disclosed on Monday that the Central Bank of Nigeria had successfully remitted the approved funds to Nigerian embassies and missions for onward disbursement to eligible scholars.

According to the ministry, the payment represents a major step toward settling outstanding obligations owed to Nigerian students studying under the scholarship arrangement in various countries.

The Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the released funds cover 50 per cent of the approved outstanding allowances for 2025, while efforts are ongoing to facilitate payment of the remaining balance.

Alausa explained that the funds had already reached the accounts of the affected embassies and missions, adding that the diplomatic offices were expected to begin immediate disbursement to beneficiaries.

He advised affected students to monitor their bank accounts as payments begin to reflect, noting that the government remains committed to supporting the welfare and academic pursuits of Nigerian scholars abroad.

The minister said the development reflects the commitment of President Bola Tinubu’s administration to education, student welfare and human capital development under the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The Federal Government also reaffirmed its resolve to continue meeting legitimate obligations to Nigerian students and sustaining policies aimed at improving access to quality education and strengthening academic opportunities for citizens studying overseas.
