Nigeria’s health sector enjoys relative harmony under Tinubu- Minister

The Federal Government has said Nigeria’s health sector has remained largely stable over the past two and a half years, with no major disruptions to service delivery during the period.

The Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Prof. Ali Pate, made this assertion on Sunday while appearing on Sunday Politics on Channels Television, attributing the stability to strategic planning and sustained investments by the government.

“I have to say that in the last two and a half years, we have experienced relative harmony. We have not had major disruptions in health services, except for a period involving resident doctors — not the medical association or medical and dental consultants, but trainee physicians — over legacy issues that had persisted for a long time,” Pate said.

The minister noted that the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has taken deliberate steps to address longstanding challenges in the sector, particularly in improving the welfare of medical doctors and other health workers.

According to him, the government is working to enhance conditions of service for health personnel across all levels, while engaging stakeholders through dialogue to resolve outstanding concerns.

Pate emphasised the importance of realistic expectations, noting that not all demands can be met at once.

“You cannot expect that everything you ask for will be done immediately,” he said, stressing the need for continuous engagement between health workers and government authorities.
