Nine Adekunle Ajasin varsity researchers ranked among world’s top two per cent

The Vice Chancellor of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko, Prof. Olugbenga Ige, has hailed the global recognition of nine academics of the institution, who were named among the top two per cent of researchers worldwide.
The scholars earned their place in the 2024 Elsevier–Stanford Global Ranking of Top Scientists, recently released, a development Ige described as proof of AAUA’s growing global reputation.
He said the feat underscored the university’s commitment to quality research and academic excellence, adding that it would inspire both staff and students to aim higher.
“This milestone is a resounding testament to the University’s unwavering commitment to quality research and global relevance,” the VC said.
Among those recognised was Prof. Sunday Olatunji, Dean of Computing, who was commended for his pioneering use of machine learning and artificial intelligence in solving real-life problems across fields. Olatunji, also named the NUC’s best artificial intelligence researcher for 2025, has 129 publications on Scopus and the Web of Science, 3,992 citations, an h-index of 34 and an i10-index of 93.
Others on the list include Prof. Nurudeen Oladoja, Prof. Adeleke Ashogbon, Dr Taiwo Agbede, Dr Taoreed Owolabi, Dr Abayomi Oke, Dr Andrew Falowo, Dr Oluwatobi Oyeneyin and Dr Damilola Omoboyowa, whose works are widely indexed in global research databases.
The Stanford–Elsevier ranking, which assessed over 8.5 million active scientists across 22 fields and 176 subfields, identified 233 Nigerian scholars among the world’s top two per cent.
