NIPSS commends Lagos transport strategy during study tour of LAMATA

A delegation from the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, has lauded the Lagos State Government for its strategic approach to urban mobility and transportation development.
The delegation, comprising senior officials from the public service, Nigerian Armed Forces, Nigeria Police Force, academia, and private sector, visited the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA) as part of its Senior Executive Course (SEC) 47, 2025 study tour.
During the visit, LAMATA’s Head of Corporate Communication, Mr. Kolawole Ojelabi, briefed the team on the Lagos Strategic Transport Master Plan (STMP), describing it as a long-term policy guide that has shaped successive administrations’ transport infrastructure projects in the state.
Ojelabi highlighted that the STMP was designed to provide a sustainable and integrated transport system to meet the growing demands of Lagos’s population, positioning the state competitively up to the year 2032.

Barr. N. Salman Mann, mni, Acting Director of NIPSS and leader of Study Group 2, commended Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s leadership and the state’s commitment to transport development. He particularly praised the Blue Line rail project for its contributions to economic growth and its potential in supporting the blue economy.
The delegation toured the Blue Line infrastructure, gaining firsthand insight into its operations and potential for reducing congestion and boosting economic activities across Lagos.
LAMATA’s Technical Adviser, Planning, Engr. Osa Konyeha, presented key aspects of the STMP, which includes six rail lines, one monorail, 14 Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) corridors, three cable car routes, more than 20 water transport routes, and expansive road networks tailored to serve the state’s mobility needs.
The tour also provided a platform for engaging discussions on challenges and opportunities in harnessing transportation for sustainable development in Lagos.
