NIS deploys passport intervention team to UK
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) has deployed a dedicated passport intervention team to the United Kingdom to process pending, new and renewal passport applications for Nigerians in the country.
The deployment follows a directive by the Minister of Interior, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, to the Comptroller-General of Immigration, Kemi Nanna Nandap, to send the team from the NIS headquarters in Abuja.
The NIS said in a statement issued on Sunday that the intervention team is scheduled to arrive in the UK on August 10 and will work with the Nigerian High Commission to facilitate passport processing and issuance.
“As part of the exercise, the team will visit designated cities across the United Kingdom to conduct passport enrolment and processing,” the service said.
It said the arrangement would enable eligible applicants in different parts of the UK to access the passport intervention exercise without having to travel to a single location.
The intervention is open to applicants with pending passport applications, new applicants and holders of passports with less than one year remaining before expiry who wish to renew them.
“Applicants are to present their completed application forms and proof of payment during enrolment,” the NIS said.
The service said the detailed schedule, including designated cities, dates, venues and enrolment times, would be announced separately.
