Nkechi Blessing slams fake social media lifestyle, calls self ‘Yankee broke girl’

Nollywood actress Nkechi Blessing has criticised people who project lavish lifestyles on social media in a bid to gain recognition as Lagos socialites, describing such displays as an illusion that can mask financial struggles.

Blessing made her position known in a post on her Snapchat story on Friday, saying she preferred to enjoy her resources privately rather than seek validation by displaying her lifestyle online.

The actress questioned why some people were desperate to associate with self-acclaimed “Lagos big girls,” suggesting that some who portray themselves as wealthy online may be struggling financially in reality.

She wrote in Pidgin English that people who got close to some self-styled socialites might end up sympathising with them because their online image did not reflect their actual circumstances.

Blessing also humorously described herself as a “Yankee broke girl,” saying she was more interested in having enough money to eat, travel and maintain her personal freedom than competing for social status.

“Me, I be Yankee broke girl, I no kuku identify with anything big girl. Make I sha dey see food chop and ticket money to fly round the world… who get pass me no concern me,” Blessing stated.

She said she did not identify with the pressure associated with the “big girl” lifestyle and was unconcerned about people who appeared wealthier than her.

The actress, however, maintained that her decision not to display her lifestyle online should not be mistaken for financial weakness, saying she could handle significant financial commitments without needing to publicise them.
