NLTF donates ultra-modern medical complex, equipment to Ebonyi State Hospital

Ebonyi State’s Umuezeoka General Hospital has received a major boost in healthcare infrastructure following the donation of vital medical equipment and an ultra-modern mortuary complex by the National Lottery Trust Fund (NLTF). The intervention is part of NLTF’s nationwide “Good Causes” initiative, aimed at improving healthcare services in underserved communities.

The donated equipment includes a digital ultrasound machine, X-ray machine, suction machines, stethoscopes, and a state-of-the-art mortuary facility. This initiative follows a comprehensive needs assessment conducted by the NLTF in response to a request from the Umuezeoka community development association.

NLTF Executive Secretary, Comrade Tosin Adeyanju, officially handed over the medical complex and equipment during a ceremony at the hospital. Speaking at the event, Adeyanju highlighted that the project reflects President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to improving healthcare and social welfare in Nigeria.

“This project is a testament to President Bola Tinubu’s vision for better healthcare across Nigeria. Our agency’s mandate spans sports development, education, health, and disaster management. We trust this community will maintain and fully utilize these facilities, and we will monitor their condition regularly,” said Adeyanju.

He further expressed appreciation to President Tinubu and the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon. Zaphania Jisalo, for their continued support in driving such impactful projects.

During a courtesy visit, Ebonyi State Governor, Rt. Hon. Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru, expressed his gratitude to the NLTF and praised the initiative.

“I’m thrilled that this project was requested by the community and was completed without assistance from the state government. The NLTF’s approach to promoting good causes is commendable,” Nwifuru remarked.

The governor praised the NLTF’s leadership, saying their work provided hope for the future of the region. “Your presence in Ebonyi shows that we are not forgotten. This gesture boosts our confidence, especially as we witness the benefits of these initiatives,” he added.

Dr. Ekuma Moses Ikenna, Ebonyi’s Commissioner for Health, thanked the NLTF for the donation, noting that the state government has already employed a pathologist to oversee the mortuary. He shared the government’s plan to expand the facility into a reference center for autopsies.

The community’s traditional ruler, His Royal Highness, Eze Samuel Ofiagwu, expressed deep gratitude to the NLTF on behalf of the Umuezeoka people.

“We had to travel far to access mortuary services. Today, we no longer have that challenge, and we are grateful,” he stated.

Dr. Stanley Okafor, Medical Director of Umuezeoka General Hospital, also thanked President Tinubu for the initiative, urging the community to safeguard the facility to attract further investments from the NLTF.

Williams Alo, a retired Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Communications and an indigene of the community, commended the NLTF for its patriotic efforts. He recalled that the community had previously donated land for the project after receiving the state’s best X-ray machine from the NLTF.

The new mortuary complex features:

  • A fully equipped mortuary building with fencing,
  • A 50kVA generator for uninterrupted power supply,
  • A six-body morgue freezer, and
  • A cadaver perfusion table for hygienic mortuary services.

This project brings the total number of NLTF “Good Causes” interventions in Ebonyi State to six, including:

  1. Sports equipment for 63 public primary schools,
  2. Medical equipment for Umuezeoka General Hospital,
  3. COVID-19 test kits and PPE for Alex Ekwueme Federal University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki,
  4. Medical equipment for Nneoto PHC/Maternity Home and Eketube-Enyigba PHC,
  5. An ambulance for Amanvu-Nkalagu, Ishielu, and

With this donation, the NLTF continues to strengthen healthcare delivery and community development in Ebonyi State and across Nigeria.
