NPFL: Remo Stars edge Shooting Stars to stay top

Remo Stars strengthened their push for a maiden Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title on Sunday with a hard-fought Southwest Derby victory over Shooting Stars.

Midfielder Alex Oyowah struck the decisive goal after 30 minutes to secure a crucial 1-0 win for Remo Stars in Ibadan.

The victory sees Remo Stars maintain their lead at the top of the table with 65 points from 34 matches, seven points ahead of second-placed Rivers United, who also picked up a 1-0 home win against Sunshine Stars.

Meanwhile, Ikorodu City moved up to third place after holding El Kanemi Warriors to a 1-1 draw away from home. They now have 53 points with four matches remaining in the season.

Bendel Insurance climbed into fifth position following a 1-1 draw with Nasarawa United in Benin City.

Elsewhere, Heartland’s struggles continued as they failed to escape the relegation zone, managing only a goalless draw at home against Kwara United.

In other results, Plateau United deepened Akwa United’s relegation troubles with a narrow 1-0 victory in Jos, while Niger Tornadoes and Bayelsa United shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw.
