NSC boss hails appointment of Philip Shuaibu as NIS DG

The Chairman of the National Sports Commission (NSC), Mallam Shehu Dikko, has lauded President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for what he described as a “bold, strategic, and visionary appointment” of His Excellency Comrade Philip Shuaibu as the new Director-General of the National Institute for Sports (NIS).
Speaking at the NSC Headquarters in Abuja while officially receiving Comrade Shuaibu on his resumption visit, Dikko praised the President for prioritizing sports development as a key pillar of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
Describing Shuaibu’s appointment as “a turning point in the journey to reset, reform, and relaunch Nigerian sports,” Dikko stated, “I must sincerely thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for once again taking the road less traveled with this appointment. This is one of the decisions that will truly support the ongoing reforms in the sports sector.”

He emphasized the crucial role the NIS will play in providing technical depth, research capabilities, and manpower to drive the Commission’s ambitious sporting agenda.
“The NIS is key to our vision in the Commission. We are doing things differently—because only mad men do the same thing and expect different results,” he stated, drawing applause from staff and stakeholders present.
Dikko described Comrade Shuaibu as a “trusted hand” who has proven himself across various national assignments, now being strategically positioned to overhaul and reposition the NIS in line with 21st-century sporting standards.
“Mr. President has chosen three good friends to hold three critical positions to turn around sports in Nigeria. Comrade Shuaibu’s pedigree speaks for itself, and I am confident he will deliver beyond expectations,” he added.
In his response, Comrade Shuaibu expressed deep gratitude and unwavering commitment to the task ahead, saying, “I came to inform the Chairman of my resumption, and our discussions have made it crystal clear—sports in Nigeria is headed in the right direction. We will ensure that the Renewed Hope vision of the President becomes a visible reality in the sports sector.”
