Oba Adedokun mourns passing of Nollywood veteran Chief Kanran

The Orangun of Oke-Ila, Oba Adedokun Abolarin, has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of veteran Nollywood actor, Segun Remi, popularly known as Chief Kanran in Yoruba movies.

Chief Kanran, who carved a niche for himself over four decades in the movie industry by often playing the role of a wealthy and flamboyant high society man, died on Friday after a brief illness.

Oba Abolarin, in a heartfelt tribute shared on his social media page, recalled the late actor’s kindness during his own moment of grief following the death of his wife, Olori Solape Christianah Abake Abolarin.

“I’ll never forget the kindness shown to me by the renowned Nigerian actor, Segun Remi, also known as Chief Kanran. Following the passing of my beloved wife, he paid me a condolence visit with a group of actors on June 14 in Ibadan. His gesture brought solace during a difficult time,” the monarch wrote.

“I immediately prayed for his recovery and urged him to prioritize his health. Tragically, Segun Remi passed away today. I’m shocked and saddened by the news. May his soul rest in peace, and may his legacy as a talented actor and compassionate individual continue to inspire us all,” Oba Abolarin said.
