Ogun farmer dies after palm tree falls on him

The Ogun State Police Command has confirmed the tragic death of a 40-year-old farmer, Abdullahi Rasaki, who lost his life after a palm tree fell on him in Bogije Village, Ijebu Igbo.

According to a statement signed on Monday by CSP Omolola Odutola, the Police Public Relations Officer, Ogun State Police Command, the incident occurred on March 9, 2025, at about 3:30 PM. The matter was reported to the police at approximately 9:30 PM by a resident, Gbamila Sunday.

Reports indicate that Rasaki had gone to the Egbe Semi Jeje area of Oke Sopen, Ijebu Igbo, along with his colleague, Waheed Abbass, to cut palm trees when one of the trees accidentally fell on him. Witnesses said he cried out for help, prompting neighbors in the vicinity to rush to his aid. They managed to remove the tree and transported him to the General Hospital in Sagamu for treatment.

Unfortunately, he was pronounced dead upon arrival by medical personnel, with initial findings suggesting that the impact of the tree caused fatal injuries. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital morgue for preservation and autopsy.

The police have launched an investigation through the Divisional Crime Branch (DCB) to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident. Further updates will be provided as the inquiry progresses.

The Ogun State Police Command extended its condolences to the deceased’s family and urged the public to take extra precautions while engaging in tree felling and farming activities to prevent similar tragedies.
