Ogun targets 3,000 affordable homes in 2026, 10,000 by 2027- Commissioner

The Ogun State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to delivering at least 3,000 affordable housing units in 2026, as part of a broader plan to achieve 10,000 housing units by 2027.
The Commissioner for Housing, Akande Omoniyi, disclosed this on Monday while addressing journalists at a press conference held at the Ministry of Housing Conference Room, Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta.
Omoniyi said that since the inception of the Dapo Abiodun administration in 2019, the state has delivered over 5,000 housing units, describing the achievement as proof of consistency and people-centred governance. He noted that more than 4,000 units were delivered between 2019 and 2023, while nearly 1,000 units have been completed in the administration’s second term.
Assuring residents of accelerated delivery, the commissioner said housing development would be boosted through strategic partnerships and phased implementation. “This year alone, within the shortest possible time, we are going to do magic—and that magic will run into several thousands,” he said.
He announced plans to replicate the Kobape Housing Scheme at Siun, where a new estate projected to deliver 2,500 affordable two- and three-bedroom units for low-income earners will be developed. The first phase of 579 units, he said, would commence in the first quarter of the year, with land clearing already scheduled.
Omoniyi explained that the project would be jointly executed by the Ministry of Housing, the Ogun State Housing Corporation, and OPIC, adding that segmented execution would ensure timely delivery, with the first phase expected by May or June.
Beyond affordable housing, the commissioner disclosed that the ministry would deliver 30 duplexes at Ibara GRA Cluster One Extension and 100 duplexes at the President Muhammadu Buhari Estate, alongside major infrastructure projects including an international conference centre at the Gateway International Airport, a 2,500-capacity banquet hall, and the Appeal Court Headquarters and residential quarters.
He added that under the 2026 budget, the ministry would deliver 3,000 fully serviced housing units across the state, while ongoing projects such as Havila Court, Igbeba GRA, and ISEYA Court Estates cater to middle- and high-income earners. Omoniyi also disclosed partnerships with the Federal Housing Authority and the Office of the Head of Service to deliver low-income and civil servants’ housing, stressing that the initiatives reflect the administration’s resolve to make home ownership accessible and drive sustainable urban development across Ogun State.
