What the heck was the matter with Osimhen? By Folabi Ogunleye

Even as a diehard Osimhen fan, I was disappointed by his personal conduct on and off the field in today’s game, where the Super Eagles trounced the Mozambique side by 4 goals to nothing.

Osimhen is understandably a passionate player, and he played well today, earning himself a brace for the team. But unbriddled passion can make a jackass of even a great team player like Osimhen.

Ademola Lookman, against whom Osimhen harbored his grievance, played decisive roles in both the goals scored by Osimhen. Lookman, therefore, deserves better treatment by Osimhen.

Right there on the field, in the middle of the game, Osimhen charged towards Lookman, dismissing attempts by his teammates to placate him and
wagging his finger at Lookman as if he was Lookman’s boss.

Osimhen’s behavior was embarassing. It was lamentable. He also put the fortunes of the team at risk – much in the same way that goal keeper Stanley Nwabali tends to do. The two of them need to put a leash on their temper.

The team is bigger than one man’s ego or anger. Osimhem can be angry, but he needs to save the display for after the game at hand is completed or, better yet learn how to address issues without making an ass of himself. To do otherwise is to be selfish, inconsiderate and immature.

In any case, what, really, is there to be so angry about? The team was leading by three goals to nothing as the game drew to a close. The team was dominating and playing beautifully (and scored one more goal upon Osimhen’s replacement. So what was Osimhen’s problem??

Perhaps there was something else that was eating at Victor Osimhem during that game, and hopefully, for his own sake, it is nothing to do with envy or a selfish desire to hug the limelight only to himself, because, if so, it will be his Samson and Delilah moment. His behavior was simply absurd.
