Olaribikusi Ruling House petitions IGP, CJN to stop Eleruwa’s coronation

By Adejayan Gbenga –
The Olaribikusi Ruling House of Eruwa has petitioned the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), the Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), and the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN) over the planned coronation of Prince Samuel Adebayo Adegbola as the Eleruwa of Eruwa, scheduled for June 28, 2025.
In the petition filed by their counsel, Kunle Abimbola (Esq.), the ruling house accused Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde of disregarding valid court judgements, including those of the Oyo State High Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court, by insisting on installing Adegbola as the traditional ruler.
The petition noted that the courts had affirmed it was the turn of the Olaribikusi Ruling House to produce the next Eleruwa. But despite this, the governor is accused of pushing ahead with Adegbola’s coronation in alleged violation of the judgements.
The ruling house explained that several appeals and entreaties were made to Governor Makinde to comply with the court rulings, but he allegedly refused to honour them.
They argued that proceeding with the coronation would amount to contempt of court and a clear disregard for the rule of law.
The petition urged the IGP, AGF, and CJN to intervene swiftly to prevent the violation of the court orders and to ensure that justice is served.
It stressed that allowing the planned coronation to proceed would undermine the authority of the judiciary and render the judgements of the High Court, the Court of Appeal, and the Supreme Court meaningless.
The petition, dated June 18, 2025, and obtained by WESTERN POST, has been duly acknowledged by the relevant offices.
