Oluremi Tinubu commends Wike over Abuja City Gate project

…Urges governors to invest in greener communities

First Lady Oluremi Tinubu has commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for the remodelling of the Abuja City Gate, describing it as a model of environmental transformation that other states should emulate.

In a statement issued on Sunday, the First Lady praised the project as a fitting example of the type of initiative envisioned under the Community Category of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI) Green Nigeria Challenge.

The Community Category of the competition, which sought to encourage the conversion of degraded spaces such as dumpsites, landfills and abandoned areas into green parks, gardens and other environmentally friendly spaces, closed on July 15, 2026, without receiving any significant entries.

Despite the outcome, Tinubu singled out Wike’s remodelling of the Abuja City Gate for commendation.

“I commend the Honourable Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, His Excellency, Barr. Ezenwo Nyesom Wike, CON, for remodelling the Abuja City Gate, which has become a notable landmark and a clear example of the kind of environmental transformation the Community Category was designed to promote,” she said.

The First Lady called on governors across the country to replicate similar initiatives by investing in cleaner and greener communities.

“I encourage other states to emulate this example by investing in cleaner, greener communities, ensuring proper waste disposal, and keeping drainage channels free of plastic waste and other obstructions to help prevent flooding,” she added.

Tinubu noted that while the Community Category has ended, the Household and State categories of the Green Nigeria Challenge will remain open until December 20, 2026.
