Ebola: Index patient evacuated from Nigeria by air ambulance — Report

The index patient in Nigeria’s Ebola outbreak has reportedly been flown out of the country aboard a medical evacuation aircraft, according to a report by Arise News.

The television station reported on Monday that the evacuation took place in the early hours of the day through the private jet wing of the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja.

According to Arise News, the patient, who is reported to be the wife of a Swiss diplomat in Nigeria, was transported to the airport in a convoy of ambulances accompanied by diplomatic vehicles.

The station said its crew, deployed to the airport’s General Aviation Terminal, observed a three-vehicle convoy arriving from the Abuja city centre before proceeding into the private jet section.

Airport officials reportedly cordoned off the area during the operation, while Arise News said it obtained video footage showing a medical evacuation aircraft and its crew preparing to transport the patient.

The report said the aircraft had been positioned at the airport ahead of the evacuation, which was initially expected to take place at about 6 a.m.
