Omotola Jalade to launch world-class food app from directorial debut
By Folashade Olorunfemi –
Legendary Nollywood actress and activist, Omotola Jalade Ekeinde, has revealed plans to launch a world-class food app from her upcoming movie, Mother’s Love.
The filmmaker made this disclosure during a discussion about her 30 years on stage on Channels Television. She described the food app as “a product that doesn’t exist anywhere in the world,” adding that she has liaised with a foreign company to bring the project to reality.
Speaking on the challenges faced by Nollywood producers, Omotola revealed plans to produce an action-based movie which, according to her, is capital-intensive and often leads to financial constraints. The actress used the opportunity to call on local and foreign investors to invest in movie production.
She added that one of the challenges she faced with her directorial debut was mobilising cast members to promote the movie, noting that she had never previously canvassed for movie promotion. However, she said she had participated in the promotion of other producers’ films in whatever capacity she could, supporting them as though they were her own.
The actress also expressed her concerns, stating that she did not carry out pre-production, which is an essential part of movie-making. She, however, acknowledged her expectations for the film despite the unplanned production, dismissing box office figures.
Recounting the steps taken so far, she revealed that the movie received an award at the Dubai Film Festival following its premiere at the 50th Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) on September 6, 2025. She also disclosed plans to showcase the film at the Pan-African Film Festival.
Omotola urged fans to watch Mother’s Love in cinemas, describing the film as a gift to her fans rather than a project driven by monetary reward.
The movie, scheduled for nationwide cinema release in Nigeria on March 6, 2026, tells the story of a young woman in search of freedom and identity, while also exploring the hidden struggles and quiet heroism of mothers in their relationships with their children.
