Ondo clergy urges FG to prosecute PFIPC scandal culprits

The Archbishop of Ondo Province and Bishop of the Anglican Diocese of Akure, Most Rev. Simeon Borokini, has urged the Federal Government to investigate allegations of financial mismanagement involving the Presidential Foreign Intervention Promotion Council and prosecute anyone found guilty.
Borokini, who spoke with journalists during the Second Session of the 15th Synod of the Anglican Diocese of Akure at the Cathedral Church of St. David, Akure, said corruption remained a major challenge in Nigeria and called for transparency and accountability in public institutions.

The cleric alleged that the PFIPC was not the only questionable agency operating in the country, urging security agencies to identify other fake government bodies allegedly being used to divert public funds.
He said funds recovered from corrupt practices should be redirected to projects that would improve the welfare of Nigerians, stressing that public office holders must manage national resources responsibly.
In his charge, Borokini also cautioned politicians against turning the 2027 general elections into a violent contest, saying no political ambition was worth the loss of lives.
He urged the Independent National Electoral Commission to remain neutral and ensure that every valid vote counted, while encouraging Nigerians to reject vote-buying, resist inducements and protect the sanctity of the electoral process.
Commenting on the country’s security situation, the Archbishop lamented the persistent cases of terrorism, kidnapping, banditry and communal conflicts across the country, noting that many civilians and security personnel had continued to lose their lives despite government efforts.
Borokini, however, welcomed the Federal Government’s partnership with the United States to strengthen the capacity of the Nigerian Armed Forces through specialised training and improved intelligence gathering, expressing hope that the collaboration would enhance the fight against insecurity.
