Ondo FRSC cautions motorists against illegal parking on highways

The Ondo State Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps has warned motorists against indiscriminate parking on highways, saying the act contributes to road crashes and traffic obstruction.
The Sector Commander, Dr Samuel Ibitoye, gave the warning on Thursday during the command’s Community Social Responsibility programme held in the Shasha area of Akure.
Accord him, the two-day exercise was aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing safety on major roads across the state.
Ibitoye explained that the programme was also designed to educate motorists and other road users on the importance of keeping highways free from obstruction.
“We have removed broken-down vehicles on the roads to ensure smooth movement and reduce avoidable crashes,” he said.
The FRSC boss added that the command was also clearing potholes, cutting trees obstructing visibility and opening blocked drainage channels to aid free flow of water.
“This is to show Nigerians that FRSC is not only about arrests and sanctions, but also about making positive impact on the highways,” he stated.
He further appealed to motorists who park recklessly on highways to desist from the practice or risk prosecution.
