Ondo Police uncover cache of illicit drugs in unmarked vehicle

By Boye Oyeyemi –

The Ondo State Police Command says its operatives have intercepted a vehicle conveying large quantities of crystal methamphetamine and other illicit substances in the Ifedore Local Government Area.

The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka Olushola, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, with Ref. No. AZ:5280/ONS/PPRO/VOL.1/277, issued on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Abayomi Adebowale Lawal.

According to the statement, a patrol team led by ASP Amos Ayuba stopped a vehicle at Ilaramokin and discovered drugs concealed inside.

The vehicle, police said, was traveling with a fake number plate.

“This development underscores the need for members of the public to be extra vigilant and security-conscious, as criminal elements continue to devise new tactics to conceal their activities,” the PPRO said.

Olushola added that the Commissioner of Police had ordered a clampdown on all unmarked vehicles, cars with covered or fake plate numbers, and motorcyclists covering their faces with hoods or masks.

He said anyone caught would be arrested, their vehicles or motorcycles impounded and suspects charged in court.

The Command urged residents to remain vigilant and law-abiding while assuring them that routine stop-and-search operations would continue to serve as an effective deterrent to criminals across the state.
