Security agencies on Monday intensified surveillance across Akure, the Ondo State capital, ahead of the visit of Vice-President Kashim Shettima for the inauguration of the Onyearugbulem Flyover.

The Vice-President is also expected to attend activities marking the 100th birthday of Afenifere leader, Pa Reuben Fasoranti.

The Ondo State Police Command said adequate measures have been put in place to ensure a smooth and peaceful outing during the visit.

Addressing the public, the command’s spokesperson, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said security personnel had been deployed to strategic locations within the state capital.

“The command has activated robust security measures to guarantee the safety of the Vice-President, the celebrant and residents during the event,” Jimoh stated.

He added that operatives from the Police Mobile Force, tactical squads and Explosive Ordnance Disposal units had equally been mobilised to prevent any security breach.

“Our aim is to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free celebration throughout the visit,” the police spokesman added.

Personnel of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, the Federal Road Safety Corps and the Amotekun Corps were also sighted at major roads leading to Fasoranti’s residence, while traffic and security patrols were intensified across Akure.
