OSHA condemns sealing of Amotekun offices, alleges political interference

The Osun State House of Assembly has alleged that political interference may be behind the forceful sealing of the operational offices of the Osun Amotekun Corps by federal security operatives.
Addressing journalists at the Assembly complex on Friday, the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, described the action, if proven true, as a reckless abuse of political influence and a gross betrayal of the people of Osun State, whose safety and security must never be reduced to a political manoeuvre.
The Speaker, who said the House received with grave concern the report of the sealing of the Amotekun offices, noted that the Corps was lawfully established under the Osun State Security Network Agency and Amotekun Corps Law, 2020.
He emphasized that no individual or institution has the constitutional authority to shut down the agency without due process and consultation with the state government or the Assembly.
The House, while condemning the sealing in the strongest terms, demanded the immediate reopening of the Amotekun operational offices and directed its Committee on Security to investigate the matter within seven days.
Egbedun maintained that Amotekun remains a duly constituted and functional agency of the Osun State Government, insisting that “security is not a political bargaining chip and that the lives of the people are not pawns on any chessboard of political ambition.”
He said, “While the House does not condone misconduct or impunity by any security organization, allegations of wrongdoing must be investigated transparently and in accordance with the law and must not be used as a smokescreen to sabotage duly constituted institutions.”
“The Amotekun Corps remains a lawfully established and functional agency of the Osun State Government, and no individual, political actor, or security institution possesses the constitutional authority to shut it down without a legislative revocation.”
