Oshoala debunks retirement rumours, focused on South Africa clash

Super Falcons striker Asisat Oshoala has dismissed rumours suggesting she is retiring from football, describing the reports as false and surprising.

The six-time African Women’s Footballer of the Year clarified her position in a chat with journalist Colin Udoh, stating she has no plans to retire and is fully focused on Nigeria’s next match.

Oshoala, who is currently in camp with the Super Falcons, said she preferred not to address the rumours, choosing instead to concentrate on the crucial semifinal clash against South Africa’s Banyana Banyana.

“I asked her, and she said she doesn’t want to address it as she wants to stay focused on the game tomorrow against the Banyana Banyana of South Africa,” Udoh revealed.

The striker’s primary goal is to help Nigeria secure qualification for the Olympics, and she remains determined not to let off-field distractions affect her performance.

Nigerian fans were initially unsettled by the rumours, given Oshoala’s iconic status in African women’s football and her consistent impact for club and country.

Her swift denial has since reassured supporters, who now look forward to seeing her lead the attack in one of the most important matches of the tournament.

Asisat Oshoala remains fully committed to her football career, with her experience and goal-scoring ability set to play a key role in the Falcons’ bid for victory over South Africa.
