Osun APC campaign council disowns fake N20,000 cash transfer linked to Oyebamiji
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo –
The Osun State All Progressives Congress (APC) Governorship Campaign Council has alerted residents to a fraudulent online message claiming that its governorship candidate, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), is offering a N20,000 cash transfer through a purported youth empowerment programme.
In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Head of the Media and Publicity Committee of the campaign council, Engr. Oluremi Omowaiye, the council described the message as false, misleading and fraudulent, stressing that it did not emanate from Oyebamiji, his campaign organisation or any authorised representative of the campaign council.
Omowaiye said, “We wish to place it on record that neither AMBO nor the Campaign Council is currently running any programme of this nature. Consequently, members of the public are strongly advised to disregard the message and refrain from clicking on the suspicious link being circulated alongside it”.
The campaign organisation warned the public against clicking on the link attached to the message, describing it as the handiwork of fraudsters and unscrupulous elements seeking to deceive unsuspecting people, harvest personal information or perpetrate other forms of cyber fraud using the name of the APC governorship candidate.
The council urged residents to verify information through the official communication channels of AMBO and the Osun APC Governorship Campaign Council before responding to any announcement relating to empowerment schemes, grants or financial assistance programmes.
It assured the public that any programme, initiative, empowerment scheme or intervention approved by Oyebamiji and the campaign council would be announced only through official channels and not through suspicious websites or anonymous social media broadcasts.
The council added that it had directed relevant units within the campaign organisation to report the fraudulent publication to the appropriate authorities for investigation and necessary action against those behind the scam.
“We thank members of the public for their vigilance and continued support for the AMBO project and urge everyone to remain alert against online fraudsters and purveyors of fake news,” the statement added.
