Osun: APC, PDP clash over alleged bomb threat to INEC office
By Deborah Oladejo, Osogbo
The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused Governor Ademola Adeleke of complicity and desperation regarding the 2026 governorship election.
The accusation stems from a viral video allegedly sent by a member of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), in which the chieftain reportedly threatened to bomb the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office and expressed concerns over the election outcome.
The APC’s Director of Media and Information, Chief Kola Olabisi, called on the Inspector-General of Police to investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to justice.
According to Olabisi, the person in the video stated that what happened in the recently held governorship election in Edo State would be replicated in Osun State in the upcoming 2026 governorship election.
He noted that it was bizarre that nearly a week after the video went viral, neither the Governor nor the leadership of the ruling party had condemned the issue, which, he said, is a good reason to suspect the Governor’s involvement and that of his associates in the troubling development.
Olabisi also questioned the Governor’s popularity, suggesting it was questionable if such a video was indeed created by a PDP member.
Olabisi emphasized the need for a swift response from the Inspector-General of Police in bringing to justice whoever might be behind what he described as a devilish plan to shed innocent blood.
In response to the allegations made by the APC, Governor Ademola Adeleke threatened to pursue legal action, seeking five billion naira in damages.
Adeleke, in a statement released by his spokesperson, Mallam Rasheed Olawale, described the defamatory allegations by the APC director as irresponsible, demanding a retraction of the baseless claims or face legal action.
He said, “The allegation is reprehensible, baseless, and defamatory. The Governor has instructed his lawyers to review the situation and demand a retraction, as he has never planned or plotted any attack on either INEC or any electoral official.”
“Should the offensive publication not be retracted, the state director faces a potential libel suit, with a demand for five billion naira in damages. This deliberate falsehood will have consequences,” the statement read.
“Ever since the Edo election, many Osun APC operatives have been boasting across media platforms about violently rigging the 2026 governorship election. We have all the clips of threats and vows to snatch 2026 ballots at all costs.
“As a populist and performing leader, Governor Adeleke is unbothered by such desperate rantings, as the Osun PDP remains electorally strong, with solid backing from the people of Osun State.
“As much as we understand that Governor Adeleke’s exceptional performance is unsettling many Osun APC leaders, it is the height of irresponsibility to level such grievous allegations against a state Governor widely known as a man of peace across party lines.
“Governor Adeleke has therefore resolved to pursue this grave accusation through legal means. Fake news will not go without consequences.”
