The Osun State House of Assembly has passed the 2025 Appropriation Bill, raising the budget from ₦390 billion to ₦427.7 billion.

The announcement was made by the Chairman of the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation, Mr. Saheed Fatunmise, during a plenary session at the State Assembly Complex in Osogbo.

Explaining the changes, Fatunmise said, “Owing to adjustments, reallocations, redistributions, and additions proposed by the state government, the size of Osun State’s 2025 budget has been revised from ₦390,028,277,740.00 to ₦427,746,925,170.00.”

He stressed that the budget would be revenue-driven, with a strong focus on enhancing Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

The Majority Leader, Mr. Kofoworola Adewunmi, also noted that the increase was necessitated by ongoing projects across the state.

In his remarks, Speaker Adewale Egbedun highlighted that the budget prioritizes critical sectors such as education, healthcare, infrastructure, tourism, and security.

He also emphasized that these allocations aim to achieve meaningful outcomes that will improve the lives of Osun State residents.

Egbedun further commended the committee and other lawmakers for their diligence in thoroughly reviewing and ensuring the timely passage of the bill.

Meanwhile, the Speaker introduced a Private Member Bill sponsored by Prince Adewumi Adeyemi, the member representing Obokun State Constituency. Titled the “Osun State Safety Commission Bill 2024,” the proposed legislation seeks to establish a safety commission to prevent stampedes, a recurring issue in some states.

In a separate event, the Osun State House of Assembly hosted its 2024 Christmas Carol and Hours of Praise, themed “The Saviour of the World” (Matthew 1:21). During the celebration, the Speaker urged Nigerians to demonstrate love, especially to the less privileged, during the Christmas season.
