‎The Vice Chancellor of the University of Ilesa (UNILESA), Professor Taiwo Asaolu, has said that over N3 billion in outstanding allowances owed to permanent staff has been paid by the Osun State Government.
‎
‎Speaking at a press conference on the university campus on Wednesday, Asaolu stated that retired staff of the defunct Osun State College of Education, Ilesa, and next of kin of deceased staff also benefited from the payment.
‎
‎He added that the Adeleke administration granted permanent appointments to over 300 staff who were on temporary appointments in the defunct college.
‎
‎The vice chancellor further disclosed that academic programmes in the faculties of education and agriculture are tuition-free.
‎
‎According to him, students offering courses in the two faculties are exempted from paying tuition fees.
‎
‎He said the policy was approved by the university senate, with the backing of the governing council and the Osun State Government, and is aimed at boosting enrolment and addressing manpower needs in the education and agriculture sectors.
‎
‎The VC added that wards and children of staff of the university enjoy a 50 per cent discount on tuition fees as part of the institution’s staff welfare package.
‎
‎He also noted that, to ensure practical training for students in agriculture, the university has established an integrated teaching and research farm, adding that the farm currently houses a cattle ranch, fish ponds, poultry, turkey and rabbit units, crop demonstration plots, and agro-processing facilities.
