Osun election: Accord aspirant calls for peaceful, credible poll

An Osun Central senatorial aspirant under the Accord Party, Olusegun Olasunkanmi, popularly known as Omo-Oluwa, has called for a peaceful, transparent and credible governorship election in the state on Saturday.

Olasunkanmi, who declared his support for Governor Ademola Adeleke and the continuation of the Imole Agenda, urged candidates, political leaders, supporters and campaign organisations to reject violence, intimidation and provocative actions.

In a statement he personally signed, the Accord Party aspirant said the election was bigger than political parties, individual interests and personal ambitions, stressing that the peace, progress, stability and future of Osun should remain the priority.

“We may belong to different political parties and hold different visions for Osun, but we share one state and one destiny. I therefore appeal to all candidates, political leaders, supporters and campaign organisations to reject violence, intimidation, provocative statements and actions capable of disturbing the peace of our communities. No political ambition is worth the blood of any Osun citizen.”

He also appealed to youths not to allow themselves to be used as instruments of political violence, saying their lives, dreams and futures were more valuable than any election.

Olasunkanmi urged supporters of the governor not to retaliate against provocation or intimidate anyone, but to respect every citizen’s right to vote according to their conscience.

He called on electoral officials, security agencies, observers and other stakeholders to remain professional and impartial in ensuring a peaceful, transparent, credible, free and fair election.

Olasunkanmi reaffirmed his support for Adeleke and the continuation of the Imole Agenda, declaring, “I stand for peace before, during and after the election”.
