The Lagos State Government on Wednesday disclosed that no fewer than 6,465,667 residents have been captured under the Lagos State Residents Registration Agency (LASRRA) exercise as part of efforts to strengthen governance and improve service delivery across the state.
The Commissioner for Innovation, Science and Technology, Olatubosun Alake, disclosed this during the ongoing annual ministerial press briefing held in Lagos.
Alake said the figure comprised 4,058,333 adults and 2,407,224 children successfully registered in the state’s residency database under the Lagos Identity Card Project, popularly known as LAG ID.
According to him, the identity management initiative is aimed at providing the government with a reliable database for planning, policy implementation and effective allocation of resources in line with the THEMES agenda of the state government.
Highlighting achievements recorded under the state’s safe city initiative, the commissioner said increased digital traffic enforcement had led to the tracking of about 86,000 traffic violations in recent months and over 737,000 violations in total.
He also said the Arts and Technology Lagos conference, organised by the Eko Innovation Centre and supported by the state government, was designed to bring together technology stakeholders, policymakers, government officials and innovators to promote the development of a smarter Lagos.
Speaking on data protection compliance, Alake said Lagos currently has 109 data protection officers to ensure compliance and safeguard residents’ information. He added that technology had enabled the government to monitor an average of 250,000 monthly visits to its online platforms.
The commissioner further disclosed that the state had completed about 3,000 kilometres of fibre optic duct infrastructure across areas such as Alimosho, Ikorodu and Ibeju-Lekki, adding that plans were underway to expand the network to 5,000 kilometres through private sector participation.
