Leaders and stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo State have adopted Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s consensus governorship candidate ahead of the forthcoming primary election.

The decision was reaffirmed on Wednesday during a stakeholders’ meeting held in Ibadan, where party leaders and members reviewed preparations for the 2027 electoral cycle.

Speaking on behalf of the leaders, Pa Alarape Jolaoso said the adoption followed wide consultations within the party and reflected its tradition of resolving major political decisions through consensus.

He also stated that party leaders had received directives from President Bola Tinubu endorsing Senator Alli as the preferred consensus candidate for the state.

In the same vein, Senator Ayoade Adeseun said the development had confirmed earlier positions within the party, noting that initial doubts had now been addressed through internal consultations.

He expressed confidence that Alli would win convincingly if a direct primary were conducted, while urging members to remain united and focused ahead of the elections.

In his remarks, Alhaji Fatai Ibikunle said the latest decision aligned with earlier resolutions by party leaders, adding that the state executive committee and other stakeholders had been fully briefed. Other leaders at the meeting called for unity among members, urging them to put aside personal interests and work for the progress of the party ahead of the polls.

Reacting, Senator Sharafadeen Alli expressed appreciation to President Bola Tinubu and other party leaders for their support and confidence in him while promising to focus on development in Oyo State and ensure delivery of democratic benefits if elected.
