Lagos State Government on Wednesday said it has disbursed over N504 million in bursaries and scholarships to 4,394 beneficiaries through the Lagos State Scholarship Board.
It also said the board introduced a Special Scholarship for Inclusion aimed at supporting persons with disabilities and other vulnerable residents across the state.
The Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Tolani Sule, disclosed this during the ongoing ministerial press briefing marking the second term of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He said the state had also strengthened partnerships with institutions in the United States, United Kingdom and Malaysia to enhance academic standards and improve global competitiveness in Lagos tertiary institutions.
Sule noted that the Lagos State College of Nursing and the Lagos State College of Health Technology recorded significant improvements in hostel accommodation, ICT infrastructure, entrepreneurship training and healthcare education.
He said the administration also expanded interventions in adult literacy and non-formal education through the Lagos State Agency for Mass Education.
According to him, the agency increased stipends for facilitators, expanded vocational training centres and strengthened literacy programmes across communities in the state.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to education, Sule said Lagos remained focused on transforming its tertiary institutions into centres of global excellence capable of driving innovation and economic growth.
