The Oyo State House of Assembly has rolled out measures to curb unregulated mining activities across the state.
This was part of the resolutions contained in a motion moved by Hon. Oladejo Anthony Ogunsola, representing Iwajowa Constituency, during plenary on Tuesday.
The motion emphasized the urgent need to address the security threats and environmental degradation caused by illegal mining operations.
As part of its resolutions, the House resolved to embark on oversight visits to all mining communities in the state.
According to the motion, unregulated mining activities have contributed to the rise in banditry, insurgency, and environmental degradation, with some miners allegedly involved in kidnapping.
The motion also noted that poor oversight by relevant government agencies has allowed illegal mining to thrive, thereby compromising safety, security, and equitable resource management.
The Speaker stated that the resolutions are aimed at ensuring strict compliance with mining regulations, safeguarding mining communities, and promoting sustainable development.
