The Oyo State College of Nursing Sciences, Eleyele, Ibadan, has inaugurated four new faculties in a major step towards advancing nursing education.
The initiative is aimed at meeting the growing demand for nursing training while enhancing the collegiate status of the institution.
At the inauguration held on Tuesday, the College’s former Departments of Nursing, Midwifery, and Public Health were elevated to full-fledged faculties: Medical-Surgical Nursing, Maternal and Child Health, Public Health and Community Care, and Psychiatric and Mental Health Nursing.
Provost of the College, Dr. Gbonjubola Owolabi, said the restructuring reflects the institution’s longstanding contributions to nursing education and the increasing demand for its programmes.
She urged the newly appointed deans to work diligently in producing world-class graduates, commending their dedication to advancing the College’s mission.
Dr. Owolabi also announced that the institution is working to commence degree programmes in collaboration with Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso. She said the new faculties would strengthen healthcare delivery in Nigeria and beyond.
Pro-Chancellor of LAUTECH, Prof. Ayodeji Omole, described the move as historic, noting that it addresses a major gap in nursing education among colleges in the country. He pledged LAUTECH’s support to ensure the degree programmes meet global standards.
