Sanwo-Olu slashes Lagos Blue Line fares to celebrate 2nd anniversary

By Adeola Ogunrinde –

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has announced a 50 percent reduction in fares on the Lagos Blue Line Mass Transit to commemorate its second year of operation.

The governor, who made the announcement on his official X handle on Wednesday, said the fare cut will take effect on Thursday, September 4, 2025.

Sanwo-Olu expressed pride in the progress recorded since the Blue Line’s launch, noting that the system has transported more than five million passengers without any accidents.

According to him, trains on the Blue Line now run every 10 minutes, completing over 90 trips daily, and significantly cutting travel time for commuters across the state.

The governor stated that the temporary fare reduction is aimed at encouraging more residents to experience the Blue Line while celebrating the achievements of the project.

Sanwo-Olu assured that the government remains committed to expanding rail infrastructure across the state, stressing that the Blue Line is only the beginning of broader efforts to ease movement in Africa’s largest city.

“Our journey is far from over,” he noted. “Step by step, we are creating the Lagos we all desire—safer, faster, and easier to navigate.”
