The Oyo State Government has declared February 18 as a mandatory school open day for all schools in the state, while warning that students whose parents or guardians fail to attend will have 10 marks deducted from their continuous assessment scores.

The directive, issued by the State Commissioner for Education, Honourable Segun Olayiwola, is part of ongoing efforts to boost academic performance and increase parental involvement in education.

Hon. Olayiwola emphasised that while the government continues to invest in schools and teachers to diligently carry out their duties, parents and guardians must actively participate in monitoring their children’s academic progress and overall well-being.

On open day, parents and guardians are required to visit schools to review students’ academic records and general development.

The commissioner warned that any student presenting a fake parent or guardian would face additional penalties.

He also stated that he would personally monitor schools across the state to ensure compliance with the directive.

Hon. Olayiwola concluded by reaffirming the state government’s commitment to creating a conducive and effective learning environment for all students.
