The Oyo State House of Assembly has approved Governor Seyi Makinde’s request for a N330 billion budget realignment and supplementary appropriation, increasing the state’s 2026 budget from N892.09 billion to N1.102 trillion.
The approval followed the consideration of an executive communication transmitted by the governor and read during plenary on Wednesday by the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adebo Ogundoyin.
Following the presentation, the Oyo State Supplementary and Realignment Appropriation Bill, 2026, and the Oyo State Supplementary Finance Bill, 2026, passed first and second readings before being referred to the House Committee on Finance, Appropriation and State Economic Planning for further scrutiny.
Governor Makinde said the request became necessary following submissions from several ministries, departments and agencies seeking additional funding to complete ongoing strategic projects across the state.
He explained that the funds would support key infrastructure projects including the Circular Road, Ido-Eruwa Road, Airport-Ajia-New Ife Expressway, Saki-Igboho Road, Apete-Awotan-Akufo Junction Road, and the upgrade of the Ladoke Akintola International Airport.
The governor added that part of the allocation would go into the completion of the Government House project, debt servicing, loan repayments, gratuity payments, and preparations for the 2026 local government elections.
A breakdown of the proposal showed N35.5 billion for recurrent expenditure and N294.5 billion for capital projects, with N120 billion from realignment of existing provisions and N210 billion as supplementary funding.
With the approval, the 2026 Oyo State budget now stands at N1.102 trillion, strengthening the state’s fiscal framework for ongoing development projects across sectors.
