Oyo PDP chieftain Seun Adelore resigns from party

The Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, Hon. Seun Adelore, has formally resigned from the ruling party, citing internal injustice, lack of reward for loyalty, and a departure from democratic ideals.
In a resignation letter obtained by Western Post on Sunday in Ibadan, Adelore—a known ally of Governor Seyi Makinde—alleged that the PDP in Oyo State is increasingly being run like a private enterprise controlled by select factions.
“I write to formally tender my resignation as the Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ibadan North Local Government, effective July 7, 2025. I also hereby withdraw my membership from the party,” he declared.
Adelore’s resignation is believed to be linked to the controversy surrounding the emergence of Governor Makinde’s Deputy Chief of Staff, Folajimi Oyekunle, as the PDP’s consensus candidate for the forthcoming Ibadan North Federal Constituency bye-election. The decision, reportedly reached at a high-level meeting with the governor and aspirants, saw other contenders step down in support of Oyekunle.
In his letter, Adelore lamented the erosion of core democratic values in the party, citing “vindictiveness, high-handedness, and a disregard for human dignity” as prevailing issues within the current administration.
“Over the past two years, I have witnessed a growing trend of imposition, intimidation, and disregard for democratic processes—practices that conflict with the foundational principles of the PDP,” he stated. “Loyalty is now punished rather than appreciated. I can no longer lend my name and reputation to such contradictions.”
Adelore, who also previously served as Chairman of the Oyo State Waste Management Board, thanked his supporters and reaffirmed his commitment to democratic principles and the development of Oyo State.
As of the time of filing this report, the PDP state secretariat had not issued an official response, and attempts to reach the State Chairman, Dayo Ogungbenro, were unsuccessful.
