Pedestrian killed in Abeokuta road accident, Police detain motorcyclist
A fatal accident along Lafenwa Road, Abeokuta, on Sunday, March 9, 2025, has claimed the life of an unidentified female pedestrian, the Ogun State Police Command confirmed in a statement on Monday.
The accident, which occurred around 7:00 PM, involved a TVS motorcycle (Reg. No. Ogun GBE 566 VC) ridden by 25-year-old Kabiru Sanni of Agbo Afoju, Sabo, Abeokuta.
According to the police, the pedestrian was knocked down while crossing the road due to the rider’s reckless conduct.
She sustained a severe head injury and was rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi Aba, Abeokuta, where she later died while receiving treatment.
Police officers visited the accident scene, documented the incident, and secured the wreckage of the motorcycle for assessment by the Vehicle Inspection Office (VIO). The motorcyclist has been taken into custody as the Motor Traffic Division (MTD) launches further investigations.
The Ogun State Police Command has urged motorcycle riders and road users to obey traffic laws to prevent such tragic incidents.
