PHOTO NEWS: Tinubu receives director of MKO documentary ahead of October 1 premiere

President Bola Tinubu on Friday received the Director of the MKO documentary, Ose Oyamendan, in audience at the State House, Abuja, ahead of the Nigerian premiere of the film scheduled for October 1, 2026.

The meeting comes as preparations intensify for the highly anticipated documentary, which chronicles the life, political struggle and enduring legacy of the late Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola, widely regarded as the winner of the annulled June 12, 1993 presidential election.

MKO is a feature-length documentary directed by Ose Oyamendan that premiered internationally at the 2026 Sheffield DocFest in the United Kingdom.

The documentary examines the events surrounding the June 12, 1993 presidential election, its annulment, Abiola’s detention and his pivotal role in Nigeria’s democratic struggle. It features interviews with former government officials, pro-democracy activists, members of the Abiola family and other prominent figures, offering fresh historical insights into one of Nigeria’s most defining political moments.

Chief Moshood Kashimawo Olawale (MKO) Abiola was a renowned businessman, philanthropist and politician who is widely believed to have won Nigeria’s June 12, 1993 presidential election, regarded as the freest and fairest in the country’s history.

The election was annulled by the military government, triggering widespread protests and strengthening the movement for the restoration of democratic governance in Nigeria.
