Operatives of the Ekiti State Police Command have arrested two suspected burglars for allegedly stealing building materials from a residential property in Ado-Ekiti.
The suspects were apprehended by officers attached to the command’s Violent Crime Response Unit. The suspects, identified as 27-year-old Omoyajowo Anu and 35-year-old Obere Dare, were allegedly caught while transporting two imported water closets believed to have been stolen from a house.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Sunday Abutu, disclosed in a statement on Friday that the arrests followed credible intelligence on the activities of suspected burglars operating in Ile Aanu Quarters and Imole Oluwa Community in the Abayamedi area along Ilawe Road in Ado-Ekiti.
According to the statement, detectives were deployed to the area for surveillance and intercepted the suspects at about 1 a.m. on June 25 while they were conveying the items under suspicious circumstances.
Preliminary investigations revealed that the imported water closets had allegedly been removed from a residential building after the property was broken into. Police subsequently visited the scene to document the incident.
“The suspects confessed to breaking into the building and stealing the water closets during interrogation. Detectives subsequently visited the scene, documented the burglary and recovered the exhibits,” the statement said.
The command added that efforts were ongoing to identify and contact the owner of the burgled property. It also said investigators had intensified efforts to arrest other members of the suspected burglary syndicate and recover additional stolen items.
Reacting, the Commissioner of Police in Ekiti State, Micheal Falade, urged residents to continue supporting the command with credible and timely information. He assured the public that the police remained committed to protecting lives and property across the state.
