President Tinubu hails D’Tigress coach for Paris 2024 Olympics recognition

President Bola Tinubu has commended Rena Wakama, coach of the Nigerian women’s basketball team, D’Tigress, following her recognition as the best coach in women’s basketball at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
In a statement released by Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, President Tinubu highlighted Wakama’s achievement as a testament to her exceptional leadership and unwavering commitment to excellence. At just 32 years old, Wakama led D’Tigress to make history as the first African basketball team to reach the quarter-finals of the Olympic Games.
The President also extended his congratulations to the entire D’Tigress team, acknowledging the collective efforts that led to their unprecedented success. He urged the team to maintain their resilience and determination, emphasizing that their remarkable achievement should inspire continued pursuit of greatness.
President Tinubu further stressed the importance of good sportsmanship, discipline, and sacrifice in competitive sports, noting that while winning trophies and medals is the ultimate goal, the values displayed by the Nigerian contingent at the Olympics are equally commendable.
