UPDATED: President Tinubu in closed-door meeting with Lagos Assembly members

President Bola Tinubu is currently holding a closed-door meeting with members of the Lagos State House of Assembly at the State House in Abuja.
The meeting, has virtually all 40 members of the Assembly in attendance.
Sources familiar with the meeting disclosed that Mojisola Meranda, the former Speaker of the Assembly, is present at the session.
Meanwhile, Mudashiru Obasa, who was recently reinstated as Speaker, arrived later to join the discussions. The details of the meeting remain undisclosed, but it is believed to be connected to the recent leadership crisis that rocked the Lagos Assembly.
In January 2025, Obasa was impeached by a two-thirds majority of the House while he was on vacation in the United States, following allegations of gross misconduct and abuse of office.
In his place, Meranda was elected as the first female Speaker of the Lagos Assembly. However, she resigned on March 3, 2025, paving the way for Obasa’s reinstatement.
After the meeting, lawmakers exiting the President’s office at about 4:30 p.m. were heard repeatedly singing “On your mandate, we shall stand”—a popular slogan used by Tinubu’s supporters to affirm their loyalty.
The chant continued for about five minutes as they proceeded toward their waiting coaster buses in the forecourt area. Efforts to get a statement from Obasa proved futile as he declined to speak to journalists.
However, Hon. James Faleke, a member of the House of Representatives who accompanied him, gave a brief remark when asked about the outcome, simply stating, “It went well.”
