President Bola Tinubu has expressed deep concern over the prolonged blackout affecting northern Nigeria, calling for swift action to restore power to the region. The disruption, ongoing for the past week, has significantly impacted social and economic activities across affected states.
According to a statement by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, President Tinubu is actively leading efforts to resolve the crisis. He has summoned Minister of Power Adebayo Adelabu and National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, emphasizing the urgent need for coordinated action to restore electricity.
President Tinubu condemned reports of vandalism and the deliberate destruction of power infrastructure, which contributed to the outage.
In a recent briefing from the Minister of Power, Tinubu learned of the progress made by the Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in repairing the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission lines, which were heavily damaged in the incident.
Calling for a sustainable, long-term solution, the President directed TCN engineers to prioritize immediate relief to affected communities to support their daily activities and local economies.
To safeguard the ongoing repair efforts, President Tinubu has tasked the National Security Adviser with coordinating security measures with the Army and Air Force, including aerial surveillance, to ensure that TCN engineers can work without interruption. The move aims to prevent further attacks on critical infrastructure.
In addition, Tinubu appealed to traditional rulers and community leaders to collaborate with security agencies to protect public assets.
He issued a strong warning against the deliberate sabotage of essential utilities, stating that the government will not tolerate acts that disrupt the nation’s infrastructure.
