‘Reconcile with opponents, expand your coast’, Tinubu tells Adeleke

President Bola Tinubu has urged Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, to use his victory in the recent governorship election to promote reconciliation and unity rather than victimise his political opponents.
Tinubu gave the advice on Thursday when Adeleke visited him at the State House in Abuja, telling the governor that his electoral victory should not be treated as a conquest over those who contested against him.
“You did not conquer anybody. You won the election. That is the essence of democracy,” the President said.
Tinubu urged Adeleke to make reconciliation a priority and extend his reach beyond his political base, saying his actions in office would be the real measure of his appreciation to the electorate.
“All for the reconciliation, expand your coast. That is the only way you can give thanks to our people. Not the way you sang it or celebrated it. It’s the way you act it,” he said.
The President said Adeleke was now in a unique position to strengthen peace and stability in Osun, adding that his victory reflected both the will of the people and the will of God.
“Where you are today, God put you there. Not the smartness of any of these people. It’s just their support, not their smartness. It is the wish of God that prevailed and the wish of the people for you,” Tinubu said.
He also cautioned the governor against stigmatising members of the opposition or turning individuals into victims of the election.
“Don’t make a single individual a victim of your campaign. Don’t. Not for you alone. Not for the sake of us all alone. For the generations to come,” he said.
