The Redeemer’s University, Ede, has graduated 1,341 students across its undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, with 185 earning First-Class Honours, including one who achieved a perfect 5.0 CGPA.

Vice-Chancellor, Professor Shadrach Akindele, announced this on Monday while addressing journalists ahead of the university’s 17th convocation and 20th anniversary celebration. He said the graduating students include 662 with Second Class (Upper Division), 410 with Second Class (Lower Division), 79 with Third Class, 5 with Pass degrees, 109 with Postgraduate Diplomas, 65 with Master of Arts, 120 with Master of Science, 25 with MBA, and 19 with PhD degrees.

Akindele described the 185 First-Class graduates as a record-breaking feat, the highest in the institution’s 20-year history, attributing it to diligence and discipline.

According to him, the university has introduced vocational programmes distinct from the general entrepreneurship courses mandated by the Federal Government, allowing students to pursue a chosen vocation alongside their degrees from 100 level till graduation.

He explained that the initiative ensures graduates can establish themselves and earn income even before completing their NYSC, adding that many will eventually create jobs for others instead of leaving the country.

“By the time you know it, they will begin to employ other people to team up with them. In such case, there will be no motivation to leave the country because they are already making it right here in Nigeria. If they will go abroad at all, it will just be to visit or make new business connection that will promote their businesses,” he said.

In recognition of their contributions to national development, Akindele announced that three distinguished Nigerians — Evangelist Omolewa Ahmed, former First Lady of Kwara State; Evangelist Mike Bamiloye, President of Mount Zion Faith Ministries; and Mr. Kola Adesina, Group Managing Director of Sahara Group — will be honoured with doctorate degrees.

He also highlighted the university’s growing global recognition, revealing that Redeemer’s University ranked second in Nigeria and first in several Sustainable Development Goals categories in the Times Higher Education Impact Rankings.
