Regulators impose N1.86bn sanctions on GTCO, Zenith Bank in H1 2025

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) and other regulating bodies have imposed N1.86billion fine on Guaranty Trust Holding Company Plc (GTCO) and Zenith Bank Plc for half year ended June 30, 2025.
WESTERNPOST gathered from audited result and accounts posted on the Nigerian Exchange Limited (NGX) that GTCO was sanctioned N43.73 million for only two market infractions, while Zenith Bank was imposed a fine of N1.8 billion for failiing to comply with six market rules.
From the result and accounts, GTCO paid N8million in respect of 2023 CBN’s Risk Asset Examination on the Bank and the banking subsidary in Ghana paid N35.73million in respect of 2023/2024 BOG examination.
For Zenith Bank, the lender was imposed N1.41 billion relating to non-compliance to CBN policy on intervention facility.
Zenith Bank in its results for half year reported N300millin penalties imposed as a result of irregularity in cash disbursement and N74million penality relating to late reporting of cybersecurity issues.
According to the results, Zenith bank was sanctitned N20million as a result of irregular asset acquisition and N5million penalty relating to branch structure.
In addition, Zenith Bank was sanctined N97,500 as a result of cash management.
