Nollywood actress and filmmaker Ruth Kadiri has raised concerns over the circulation of suspected fake and substandard products in Nigeria, urging authorities to strengthen efforts to protect consumers.
Kadiri expressed the concern in a video shared on her Instagram page, where she questioned the quality of some products being sold to Nigerians.
She specifically called on the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) to pay closer attention to the issue and intensify monitoring of products available in the market.
The actress also recounted a personal experience involving garlic she recently purchased, saying she noticed an unusual change in its appearance after blending it.
According to Kadiri, the experience raised questions in her mind about the quality and safety of some food products available to consumers.
However, her observation does not establish that the garlic was fake, contaminated or otherwise unsafe, as no independent test or official confirmation was cited in her account.
Nevertheless, Kadiri used the experience to draw attention to broader concerns about potentially substandard products and the need for stronger consumer protection measures.
She urged relevant authorities to intensify surveillance and enforcement to ensure that products sold to Nigerians meet required safety and quality standards and do not pose risks to public health.
