Seven arraigned over murder of Kwara Health Tech student

By Mosunmola Ayobami, Ilorin
A Kwara State High Court sitting in Ilorin on Monday arraigned seven persons in connection with the alleged murder of Awesu Mojisola, a final-year student of the Kwara State College of Health Technology, Offa.
The accused include Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, identified as the prime suspects; Adebayo Adeniyi and Bukola Adeniyi, parents of Happiness; and three hotel workers—Adeoye Adeola, Lawal Aminat, and Peter Bulus.
The prosecution charged them with six counts, including conspiracy, murder, destruction of evidence, and improper disposal of a corpse. The offenses allegedly occurred between August 8 and 9, 2024.
When the case was presented, the Kwara State Director of Public Prosecution, Ayoola Akande, led a team of five lawyers for the prosecution. Barristers F.A. Ahmed and A.I. Orisankoko represented the parents and hotel workers, respectively. However, the proceedings stalled because the prime suspects, Happiness Adebayo and Timileyin Kolawole, lacked legal representation, preventing their plea from being taken.
Justice Adebayo Yusuf ordered the remand of Adebayo and Kolawole in a correctional facility and adjourned the case to February 24, 2025, for proper arraignment.
Investigations revealed that Mojisola was allegedly lured to Ilorin by Adebayo and Kolawole before being murdered and her corpse dumped at a dumpsite in the Wara area of Ilorin.
Adebayo’s parents, Adebayo Adeniyi and Bukola Adeniyi, are accused of aiding in the destruction of evidence. Meanwhile, the three hotel workers—Adeola, Aminat, and Bulus—allegedly conspired to dispose of Mojisola’s body improperly.
According to the prosecution, the charges fall under Sections 97, 221, and 167 of the Penal Code, CAP. P4, Laws of Kwara State, 2006, as well as Section 9 of the Kwara State Prohibition of Dealing in Human Parts Law, 2018.
The court will reconvene in February for further proceedings.
